Samenvatting: Erasmus and the free fall in technology (zoals op de achterkaft)
Technoscientific developments are challenging our view of man and the world. Current ideas, seeking firm ground in either religion or man himself, perceive science and technology as merely subservient to unchanging humankind. This one-sided perspective seems no longer tenable for we are being increasingly shaped by technology. Moreover, this perspective seems to stand in the way of a creative response to the great challenges of our time, ranging from poverty to integration to climate change. Isn?t it about time to restart or, to put it in computer terms to reboot our thinking about ourselves in relation to technology, and in the process give it a touch of the ironic Renaissance humanist spirit? This e-book is the follow-up to Reboot, an art project held in Rotterdam in 2009 at Grotekerkplein, a big square where the statue of Erasmus, great humanist and philosopher is situated. It contains contributions by Taco Noorman, Roel Pieterman, Chris Aalberts, Liesbeth Levy, Carel Peeters, Leo Molenaar, Atze Bosma, Corien Prins, Carla Hoekendijk, Pieter Lemmens and visual artist Bas van Vlijmen, creator and organizer of the project.
