Projects fail often in spite of vigorous project control and management methods. Many projects have much information content and effectively become IT projects. They are complicated - a main reason for failure. Surveys define project success as to deliver target outcomes on time and within budget. They place the marks of success at e.g. >80% of outputs produced, <20% late and <20% over budget. With these criteria, a project that is on time and within budget, and delivers its outputs is a success even if the outputs carry no value, while a project that delivers 1,000,000 extra profit is a failure if its costs were 100,000 instead of the budget 50,000. In PPM we define success first of all as to generate adequate value for the clients of the project. PPM uses component-driven work break down to split a project into independent modules that connect with clever interfaces. That reduces interference, the main cause of complexity. PPM further increases project flexibility with systematic and dialogue interfaces, and with deploying human creativeness.
