Henry van de Velde (1863–1957) is considered one of the pioneers of modern architecture, but is much less well-known for his work as a draughtsman and painter. Besides that, he was also a talented visual artist. Ten years after completing his education at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, Van de Velde traded painting for applied arts and architecture. But it was only after his death that interest in his creations as a painter took hold. This catalogue comprises roughly 60 paintings and 230 drawings, which together present an insightful and fascinating retrospective of his multifaceted oeuvre. The book is compiled by Ronny van de Velde, with an introduction by Xavier Tricot.
