A decade after his betrothed's disappearance, Dire Saulder descends into tyranny so oppressive not even his brother, Prince Sova, can reason with him. When Saulder's cruelty crosses a line, Sova is left with no choice but to challenge his brother, which results in his untimely banishment. Alongside the rebel soldier Roeseph, Sova forms a courageous band of fellow exiles to confront the Dire of Vaska and reclaim their homeland. Among them are a fearless tavern fighter with a short temper, a haunted shepherdess, a giant flying wolf monster intent on devouring Sova, and a ghost from Saulder's past. Together, they embark on a quest to locate the mind-melders of Era, hoping to defeat the dreaded Dire and his infamous mind-melder servant, the Blesser of Vaska.
