John Crowly is geboren in Cork, Ierland en begon zijn carri�re als theaterregisseur. Naast geroemdeproducties als Tales from Hollywood en Juno and the Paycock voor het Donmar Warehouse,regisseerde hij ook de productie van het National Theatre The Pillowman.Zijn filmdebuut maakte hij met de regie van Intermission, waarmee hij de Douglas Hickox Award en deBritse Independent Film Award voor beste debuutregisseur won. Boy A is zijn tweede speelfilm.
